Occupy Collects Clothes For Homeless – Gazettes.com: To Do.

Occupy Long Beach is collecting clothes for homeless students seven days a week through Feb. 12 at Bixby Park, at the corner of Broadway and Junipero Avenue.
Hours are 5 to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday and noon to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
The group suggests donations of new athletic or closed-toe shoes, socks, jackets and sweatshirts/hoodies for children grades K-12 in all sizes. Donations will be given directly to Long Beach students in coordination with the Bethune Transitional Center and Los Angeles County Office of Education, Student Support Services.
“Just as we raise our collective voice to effect change within our government, we raise our arms to embrace all members of the community,” Mary Ellen Hobbs of Occupy Long Beach said in a release.
Donations also will be accepted from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday at Urban Cottage, 4121 Long Beach Blvd.

N.D.A.A. DAY OF ACTION: FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 3 Nationwide Protests Against the National Defense Authorization Act Today Occupy protesters and concerned citizens across the country will gather outside congressional offices from noon to 7 p.m. to protest the National Defense Authorization Act 2012 (H.R. 1540). Protesters are calling upon their congressmen to repeal Section 1021 and 1022 which could lead to the indefinite military detention of Americans without due process. Some protesters are also demanding the recall of all congressmen who voted for this bill. You can find your protest location by clicking on the “House” and “Senate” links below. There you can find your district, see how your legislator voted on this bill and clilck on his/her name to get the office address/protest location.

Citing “[s]ignificant concerns […] raised by a number of our core supporters” regarding holding its annual Interfaith/Intercultural Breakfast at the Hyatt Long Beach, which has for the last few years been involved in a labor dispute, the California Conference for Equality and Justice (CCEJ) has chosen to move the event to the Long Beach Convention Center.
