Home Defense Empowerment Workshop

Foreclosure_Fraud_Stop_RGB

On Saturday, February 18th, from 3 to 5pm, we will be hosting a Home Defense Empowerment Workshop at the First Congregational Church in Long Beach, 241 Cedar Avenue. (map)

The first intention of this workshop is to provide the resources necessary for a motivated homeowner to successfully defend their homes. This is the right workshop for those homeowners interested in actively fighting against the predatory and fraudulent practices of the lending institutions attempting to take their homes. It is also the right workshop for any friend, family member, activist or person interested in learning more about home defense and the Occupy Homes movement.

6 CALLS TO ACTION THIS WEEK!

For more information, contact Occupy Long Beach’s Internal Communications committee at occupylbic@gmail.com.
Also see our post “MLK Actions Jan. 7th & 14th.”

1. CALL TO ACTION:
Friday, January 13th

OCCUPY SAN PEDRO CALLS ON YOU TO BE THERE THIS FRIDAY AT 10: 30 AM AND TELL WELLS FARGO TO STOP ATTACKING THE 99%.
Now is the time to show our support for a local San Pedro family who is being shafted by Wells Fargo bank.
We have an action this Friday!! Please come to show your support if at all possible and tell your friends and neighbors. We want a good show of force and signs that are appropriate to the situation. All info is below.
Event: Foreclosure Press Conference w/ ACCE & Occupy San Pedro – https://www.facebook.com/events/336549246369323/
Address: 634 W. 22 nd Street (22nd and Gaffey in San Pedro)
Date: FRIDAY, January 13 at 10:30 am

Background:
Melvina and Richard Bogan are San Pedro residents. About ten years ago, after working for a lifetime to save up adequate money, the Bogans purchased a home with a 20% down payment. Despite their best planning, the Bogans, like so many others, were impacted by the economic crisis.

While they continued to make their house payments, they realized that they were eligible for a home loan modification and reached out to Wells Fargo in hopes of getting one. For over a year they attempted to get a modification and were continually denied by Wells Fargo despite the fact that they met all of the federal guideline qualifications.

In early 2011, the federal government sanctioned Wells Fargo, Bank of America and JP Morgan Chase for failure to properly evaluate homeowners applying for the federal Home Affordable Mortgage Program (HAMP). Wells Fargo was the only bank to deny that they had improperly implemented the program. However, from the federal government’s own statistics only 1/6 of all eligible homeowners are receiving HAMP modifications.

ACCE proposes a press conference at the Bogans’ home to call on Wells Fargo and the other big banks, who are responsible for well over half of all foreclosures, to stop improperly denying the thousands of hardworking families who have been impacted by the economic crisis and are eligible for modifications.

In addition, the city of LA has over $30 billion invested in big banks like Wells Fargo – at the event we would also promote the proposed Responsible Banking Ordinance, which would set up a reporting process for the city to consider in future bank investment
We are the 99%!

Thank you.

Think Big Buy Small 12/17

thinkbigbuysmall3

Click here to sign up so we can count how many people attend!

DID YOU KNOW? That our “Think Big, Buy Small” event is not a protest, it is not a demonstration. That we have prearranged meet ups with participating store owners. That this event is to promote a sense of community. To promote these small businesses. To have a better understanding of why it is so important to shop small. To hear directly from small shop owners their stories of success and struggles in our current corporate environment. This is the 3rd in our series, don’t miss it! You will love getting to know the owners of the stores you drive by every day. It would be great if you could sign up so we know how many to expect.
