NEWS

We have received word that Patrick O’Donnell, Chair of the
“County/State Legislative Standing Council Committee has cancelled the
meeting scheduled tonight until after the June 5 election.

The Committee was to consider the City Council Resolution to approve
the Homeowner Bill of Rights which was referred to it by the full
Council on May 8. We will inform you when it is rescheduled. All
Committee meetings are public and people may speak for 3 minutes.

Note when the Council agreed to send it to Committee it was stressed
by several Council members that “time is of the essence” because of
the legislation right now in the CA State Assembly. Chairman O’Donnell
even said we’ll get it scheduled “I hear that there is a real urgency
in the room . . .”

THANK YOUS and REPORTS

First off we would like to thank all the folks who came
out and helped out Sunday and supported the teen memorial. If it wasn’t
for Richard Madeira and Jack Finley the idea of a teen memorial would not have
happened. They deserve a lot of credit for their vigilance in making this
memorial a reality and in time for Memorial Day. It was a lot of work, but we
think it was worth it. Every group pitched in and it paid off! Our
message was heard.

Great coverage from the local Press Telegram on the front page.

Fox 11 news also had coverage on the link below. They were there all day and into the
evening and we were surprised at how it all came out.

Occupy’s Front Line Moves to the Front Lawn

Occupy’s Front Line Moves to the Front Lawn

JP Morgan & Chase Co. CEO Jamie Dimon had an early birthday surprise last Monday: The bank was closed. The disruption happened not because the birthday of Forbes magazine’s 41st “most powerful person” in the world had finally been declared a national holiday. It was because hundreds of Occupy Atlanta and Take Back the Land activists used their bodies, furniture, poetry, and more to shut down five bank branches in Atlanta in protest of the eviction of the family of Eloise Pittman, who had been sold a predatory loan with an interest rate of more than 10 percent. The action kicked off a national week of action foreclosures.

Hundreds gather at Wells Fargo Center to protest bank’s birthday | 89.3 KPCC:

A few hundred people marched on Wells Fargo Center to crash the U.S. banking giant’s 160th birthday on Tuesday.

The protest was put on by Good Jobs LA, an activist group with ties to the Occupy LA movement. The group called for an end to home foreclosures by Wells Fargo, which they say leads the nation.

Protesters sang “Happy Birthday” at the bank’s front door and chanted slogans that have by now become synonymous with the Occupy movement: “We are the 99 percent,” “Si se puede” and “Banks got bailed out, we got sold out.”

Occupy Long Beach Sets Sights on Signal Hill, Rallies to Save Family From Foreclosure

Occupy Long Beach Sets Sights on Signal Hill, Rallies to Save Family From Foreclosure.

Rachel New and her family—two young daughters, disabled mother, a disabled aunt, and brothers—are threatened with eviction from her home in Signal Hill despite trying for over a year to negotiate a loan modification with her bank.

Rachel came to this country as an immigrant from the killing fields of Cambodia, where she was beaten and starved and saw people shot. She worked hard, graduated from CSU-LB, where she has worked for over 17 years. By the time her dream home was completed, it was underwater.

Gibson’s film also parallels this phenomenon with the rise of rap and hip-hop music, and how these styles have provided a voice for disenfranchised youth.
